HITCHCOCKTOBER SCHEDULE Reading Cinemas at Cal Oaks Plaza Every Thursday in October DIAL

M FOR MURDER 3D (1954) OCTOBER 3 @ 7PM Yes, 3D! Hitchcock's 1954 classic was originally shot in 3D but rarely seen in this format by moviegoers. The film has been restored for a high-resolution 3D digital presentation. DIAL M FOR MURDER is a sophisticated, chillingly sinister thriller from the Master of Suspense. Based on the popular mystery play by Frederick Knott and led by an unforgettable performance by Grace Kelley, the film follows an ex-tennis star who frames his unfaithful wife for first-degree murder after she inadvertently hinders his plan to kill her. (105min, PG)

NORTH BY NORTHWEST (1959) OCTOBER 10 @ 7PM Hitchcock’s gripping and suspenseful NORTH BY NORTHWEST follows Madison Avenue advertising executive Roger Thornhill (Cary Grant), as he finds himself thrust into the world of spies when mistaken for a CIA Agent and kidnapped. He escapes, seeking out the real Agent, only to discover that no one has ever seen him. Before he can investigate, a man is murdered in view of 50 witnesses who believe Thornhill is guilty. On the run from a murder charge, Thornhill meets a beautiful woman (Eva Marie Saint) who turns his life upside down when he realizes she’s not the innocent bystander he thought. (136min, NR)

THE BIRDS (1963) OCTOBER 17 @ 7PM Hitchcock’s iconic classic THE BIRDS turns seemingly harmless creatures into some of the most terrifying villains in horror history. Starring Rod Taylor, Tippi Hendren, Suzanne Pleshette, and Jessica Tandy, the story begins as an innocuous love triangle, but turns dark when the characters' sense of security is slowly eroded by the curious behavior of the birds in the area. Panic mounts as birds murder a chicken farmer by pecking him to death, create a flash fire at a gas station, and swarm over the local children as they leave school. (120min, PG13)

THE LADY VANISHES (1938) OCTOBER 24 @ 7PM Alfred Hitchcock pushes the romantic comedy-thriller form to perfection in THE LADY VANISHES, about a young woman (Margaret Lockwood) who triggers an international incident when she tries to track an elderly friend who has disappeared from the train. (97min, NR)

PSYCHO (1960) OCTOBER 31 @ 7PM Alfred Hitchcock's landmark masterpiece of the macabre stars Anthony Perkins as the troubled Norman Bates, whose old dark house and adjoining motel are not the place to spend a quiet evening. When Marion Crane, spectacularly played by Janet Leigh, ends up at the Bates Motel after making off with $40,000 cash, there's hardly a film fan alive who doesn't know what happens next. First a private detective, then Marion's sister, search for her as the horror and suspense mount to a terrifying climax where the mysterious killer is finally revealed. (109min, R)
