On this day in 2008, the television landscape was change forever by one of the best TV shows in history.
We met Walter White and Jessi Pinkman (and later Heisenberg) and a cast of characters hat we'll never forget.
I remember watching the first episode and wondering if it was just a dark comedy, only really knowing Bryan Cranston as the silly dad on Malcolm in the Middle.
The show sure went beyond that...and so many other norms!
I think the key was that the Walter White character had no level moral compass. You rooted for him even though he went from the poor struggling teacher trying to help his family after being told he was dying of cancer to "Heisenberg"- the dark soulless character that was capable of anything.
The show aired on AMC from January 20, 2008, to September 29, 2013, consisting of five seasons for a total of 62 episodes.
In the end, there was some comedy as an "alternate ending" that did not air was also produced.. if you never saw it.. check it out below along with that first episode.
It spawned a follow up movie without the Walter White character called "El Camino" that pretty much sucked and prequel show about the sleazy attorney Saul Goodman called "Better Call Saul" which is great.. and apparently still in production.
