New Special Exhibit at the Temecula Valley Museum

Here's the in from from the Temecula Valley Museum:

– The City of Temecula and the Temecula Valley Museum are proud to host the exhibition, The Perfect Shot: Walter Iooss Jr., and the Art of Sports Photography. This exciting exhibition will be showcased on the second-floor gallery of the Temecula Valley Museum (28314 Mercedes Street), from June 20, 2025 through August 10, 2025. From Muhammad Ali to Serena Williams, Walter Iooss Jr. has brilliantly photographed some of the greatest athletes of all time. As an artist, he captures on film carefully crafted moments of anticipation and triumph — universal emotions of athletes and non-athletes alike. The Perfect Shot: Walter Iooss Jr., and the Art of Sports Photography takes visitors through some of the most inspiring moments in sports history and highlights the craft and talent that transformed these moments into art. The exhibition features athletes Michael Jordan, Arnold Palmer, Tiger Woods, Cathy Marino, and many more. “Iooss is a master at framing and discovering dynamic backdrops...Over the course of his career with Sports Illustrated, Iooss brilliantly photographed many of the greatest athletes of all time,” said curator Bryn Schockmel, PhD. “As an artist, Iooss has created carefully composed portraits, captured seemingly candid moments that were actually meticulously crafted, and taken dramatic shots at the center of the action.” This exhibition, on loan from ExhibitsUSA, a national program of Mid-America Arts Alliance, is an adaptation of the original retrospective exhibit organized by the Oklahoma City Museum of Art (OKCMOA) and is drawn from their permanent collection. In conjunction with this exhibit, the Temecula Valley Museum will be hosting a gallery talk on the techniques and methods of sports and action photography from local professional photographer, Shawna Sarnowski, on Saturday, July 12, 2025, from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm. Please contact the Temecula Valley Museum at 951-694-6450 or visit TemeculaValleyMuseum.org, for more information on this exhibit and gallery talk.
