Labor Day Weekend is Here- Here Are Some Fun Facts

4 Years Ago I spent my Labor Day Weekend in Washington DC. This year it's a day bike riding around Coronado and a pool party...and then I am back to work Monday morning.

Here is some useful Labor Day info:

Labor Day Travel Period In Full Swing

The Labor Day travel period is underway. According to Triple-A, the best times to drive to and from your Labor Day destination are Friday - that's today - before noon, Saturday between 6 and 10 a.m., Sunday before 11 a.m., and Monday before noon. Gas prices are around the lowest level since 2020. The TSA says it will screen more than 17 million people over the period.

Labor Day Barbecue Will Be More Expensive This Year

The cost of a Labor Day barbecue is going up in cities across the U.S. The Bureau of Labor Statistics say grocery prices are up over two-percent from this time last year, on average. The cost of a barbecue will vary depending on where you live. A recent analysis of barbecue ingredients shows New York City, Spokane [[ Spo-can ]], Washington and Atlanta, Georgia had the highest increase in costs. The Cost of Living Index shows that even in cities where the total barbecue cost fell from a year ago, the price of steak, lettuce and cooking oil have still shown notable increases.

TSA Preps For Busy Labor Day Travel Period

The TSA says more than 17 million people will be screened during the Labor Day travel period. The travel period runs from August 28th to September 4th, with the peak travel day projected to be August 30th. TSA expects this to be the busiest Labor Day travel period on record as the agency anticipates passenger volumes to be eight-point-five-percent higher than last year during this time. Air travel volumes this summer are the highest the agency has seen in its history, and the top ten busiest travel days in the agency's history have all occurred this year.
