My St Maarten Sailing Trip Pt 3: Fabulous Food & Drink that was Affordable!

In part 3 of my blog series on our recent sailing trip around St Maarten, I thought I'd focus on one of the surprisingly amazing highlights: The FOOD and drink!

This is my 4th sailing adventure to an exotic place (Belize, British Virgin Islands, and Abacos being the previous 3 locations), and each place has great food, mostly seafood and good local drinks.

St Maarten was a big step above even those places! Everywhere we ate from busy eateries where the locals ate, to super fancy restaurants right on the beach, every meal we had was incredibly fresh, tasty, and amazing! We spent most of our time on the French side (only our pre-sailing stay was on the Dutch side of the island), so we had the French flair for food and drink.

Yes we had lobster, which is served everywhere and you can see huge 5-10lb lobsters on display everywhere we ate. It was incredibly flavorful, but ALL the food we had was great! I had octopus at one location and clamari at another location...if you browse through the photos you'll see a cornicopia of diferent delicacies that we all enjoyed.

The local drink is called the Bam Bam. A Bam-Bam cocktail in St. Maarten typically contains rum, passion fruit, and lime, with tasty seed in it..very citrus tasting and strong! We also went to an amazing rum store and tasted rums from all over the world....then we staggered back to our boat...

The final surprising fact is that even though we are on an exotic island, the drinks and high end food was LESS than those same dishes would be in Southern California!

Here are some tasty photos of all the great food and drink...if you ever go to St Maarten, eat fancy, it's less expensive than California, so you can enjoy more of it!
