New Radicals - You Get What You Give

Before Billie Eilish was taking over shopping malls, the New Radicals were chugging Orange Julius all the way to a number one record. This was filmed in the Staten Island Mall in New York and frontman Gregg Alexander thought of a mall as a metaphor for society, ie. obsessed with consumer culture and fake. Also he hates that the thing that made this song huge was the fact that he mentions Beck, Hanson, Courtney Love, and Marilyn Manson because it meant many listeners missed the more poignant lyrics. He didn’t love what he saw as part of a frontman of a popular group, and disbanded New Radicals in 1999 to take a more behind the scenes role in music. HOWEVER, they’ll be performing at the Biden-Harris inauguration, reunited for the first time in twenty two years which is BANANAS.
