Rising Star Showcase at Tilted Kilt

On Saturday April 15th at 8PM our next Rising Star Showcase will feature 2  performers:

This first Rising Star band has a member I know well. We used to work together when I was doing radio in Santa Barbara. I was working on air and Austen Moret was working in the sales department in the same radio group. Although he did achieve some "top salesmen" awards, I could tell that music was really what Austen was all about. He did manage to get a performance slot at one of the radio shows we did, and it was clear to me then that he should stop wearing that suit and get into the studio. He did just that a short time after I left Santa Barbara.

 The result is Midnight Divide.

There’s just something about that moment between today and tomorrow that brings out the bestin neo-90’s electro alt-rock band Midnight Divide. The Los Angeles based project calls it their “inspiration from the ether”. Seems to be working, considering their debut EP Embrace TheWave reached #149 on the CMJ 200, they placed 2nd at the Hollywood Battle of the Bands.

The project has seen several evolutions since its inception, but always at the center is songwriter, producer and frontman Austen Moret. Hailing from Milwaukee, WI, the ex-college football player writes, records and produces with influences like: TV On The Radio, Radiohead, Imagine

Dragons, a myriad of 90s rock bands and electronica. “I love synth sounds” says the singer,“…some of the wild things you get from computers…it’s an undeniable thing I needed to use.”He continues, “but guitars and drums will always be my first love. There’s something about big ass drums or a catchy guitar riff that always gets me going.”

In early 2016, Jace McPartland (bass) and Sab Cahrunas (drums) joined the band to round out the core trio. A rotation of lead guitarists including longtime friends Anthony Francisco, Dan Beltran and Mike Aguado, play on tour and for LA shows..

In October of 2016 Midnight Divide won our last Rising Star Competition..and now they are defending their title. Austen from Midnight Divide is the featured "Backstage Pass" artist interview on the Sunday Night Music Meeting on 4/9/17
