If you have a clogged drain, what are the first 3 things to do to determine what kind of clog you have and how to fix it?
If you have a clogged drain, toilet, bathroom sink, tub or shower, or kitchen sink, the first thing to look for is if more than one fixture is clogged. If more than one fixture is clogged, it indicates that the clog is most likely a main line sewer stoppage. A main line sewer stoppage will require entering the main waste pipe through either a clean out, removing a toilet, or roof access to properly snake and clear the main line. If the toilet is clogged, it could be just in need of augering. A toilet auger will clear the toilet of obstructions up to 6 feet. If a kitchen sink is clogged, it may be the garbage disposal. If the garbage disposal won’t turn, you can use an Allen wrench to turn the disposal and loosen the clog.
