Throw Back Thursday: August 23, 2017

One year ago on this day I watched a Bryan Ferry in concert...but not from inside Humphreys where he played but from the marina adjacent to the venue.....

For many years small boaters have  steered their water crafts into prime viewing spots to watch and listen (mostly) to artists during the Summer Concert series. I had attended in a friend's 12' Whaler, but this time I decided to try kayaking over with my friend Chris.

As always, I had a great time, watching and listening to the concert, and connecting with the unique individuals who regularly attend concerts this way.

Suggestions if you decided to try this:

Find a convenient launch site for your kayak....if you have a friend who has a boat in one of the Shelter Island Marinas, launch from there..otherwise you'll have to paddle across from one of the small beaches in Pt Loma.

Bring food and drink to share...everyone hands what they have from boat to kayak and are very generous if you participate, so bring easy-to-carry liquid container and finger food.

Light up! Not just that way.....make sure you have lights on your kayak...I have a head lamp I wear and a bring light attached to a lanyard around me neck as well as strap on mini lights for my paddles.

Make your bathroom break just before you leave...no restrooms on the water and unless you are good at the whole pee-in-a-cup thing, you'll need to take care of those needs before you set out.

Don't forget to cheer loudly...sometimes the artists actually call out the boaters...makes it even more fun!

Here are some photos of the Humphreys-from-the-water experience
