Friday Flashback: On This Football Day

On this day in 1981 the high flying Chargers 1981 season came to end one game short of the Super Bowl. They lost to the Raiders in this game and the Raiders went on to win the Super Bowl that year.

I was a kid in school working at a restaurant called the Cask & Cleaver. One of our regular customers was Louis Kelcher- an NFL all pro Charger that year. Louie dropped off a pair of tickets and told the restaurant manager to do a drawing ...and I won!

Two things that are interesting about this story...one..that Louie Kelcher was such a nice guy..and that an AFC Championship game ticket only cost 18 dollars!

You can see that price in the pic of the ticket....that I kept all these years.

Will the Chargers season end this weekend? Or will they move on? Check out my other "Grid Picks" blog to find out what I wrote...
