Throw Back Thursday:Warsaw Becomes Joy Division


On this day in 1978, After changing their name from Warsaw, (inspired by the song Warszawa on David Bowie's Low album), Joy Division made their live debut when they played at Pips Disco in Manchester, England.

Though Joy Division would end tragically with the suicide of their lead singer Ian Curtis on the eve of the band's first American tour, the remaining members would go on to form New Order.
