Sabroso Festival Review- The Good, the Bad, & the Ugly

I made it out to Doheny Beach for the Sabroso Festival last week and here what I thought.....

The Good

The Offspring- after over a quarter of a century, the band still rocks...I go so far as to say Noodles is a better guitarist than ever now..

The Descendents- I am a huge fan of old school punk, but not necessarily of the Descendents, so this was the good surpirse of the weekend. The band was tight and fun and res...youthful sounding..I was impressed!

The beer tasting- we did NOT have VIP early entry, which usually means you stand in long lines for a long time for very few beers...this was NOT the case at Sabroso..we were never behind more than a half a dozen people, so the beer tasting was not a hassle..it was exceptionally fun!

The Bad

Parking- not only does the lot fill up VERY quickly, they don't shut the street off..so you end up getting routed into a line that snakes through and OUT of the grounds area. Organizers would better serve the public if they just closed the street where the entrance is so as to not piss off anyone who arrives after the lots QUICKLY fill up..... Here's how you beat it for the next festival: don't go across the bridge leading to the park..go park on the street in town...there is plenty of parking and when you park there you are less than 2 miles away. We parked exactly one mile away..which was MUCH closer than the overflow lots where you had to pay 10 bucks to get on a shuttle. If you can, bring bikes..there is a huge bike rack at the entrance and it's right near the police set up, so you bikes will be safe if you lock them up there...

Black Flag- some bands know when to hang it up and save their image for the history books. In their day, Black Flag was THE FIERCEST hardcore band, period. Now, they look lethargic, and even though there is only a couple of original members...they sounded dated and OLD.

The Ugly

Lucha Libre- it's supposed to be ugly..masked wrestlers slamming around in a ring...I get that it's the "hook" and it was kinda fun to watch..but mostly silly..

The taco eating contest- it was more messy than ugly and a mother of 4 almost won....but the winner who ate 157 tacos in one short sitting of ten minutes was competitive eater Takeru Kobayashi.

Below are pics from the event......
