San Diego Yacht Club Opening Day Review

This past weekend I was fortunate enough to get to attend the San Diego Yacht Club Opening Day party again. This is the day that the spring summer season is kicked off with a huge party at the SDYC that this year included 2 tall ships right at the main dock, including the famous "California". Bands performed on the deck of the tall ships for the attendees on the decks and docks adjacent to those tall ships.

I wrote that I was "lucky" to attend because I don't think you can even buy a ticket to this event. As far as I can tell, you have to be invited by a boat owner in the marina to attend...and you can't just show up, because security is STRICT at the out gate.

I do know a few boat owners, (and I always meet the challenge of "you can't get in" by actually getting in to restricted areas), so I was off with me friends to enjoy the event.

Part of the event is visiting "host boats"- these are some of the larger vessels in the marina that you can actually board, sit and relax, and enjoy some food and drink while seeing the epic views of the marina, the boats and Pt Loma nearby...

Adult beverages were also served.

I highly recommend this event to anyone who is in to sailing or boating or partying on or near the water....but remember..you gotta know a boat owner to get in....
