Recently I attended my first of the summer series of Twilight Concerts at Powerhouse Park on the beach in Del Mar.
The Good
You won't find a better view! The beautiful Del Mar Beach is worth to going just to watch the sunset there...
"Hotel California" was the Eagles tribute band that played. Although they looked every bit as old as the actual Eagles, they played well and harmonized very well.
The atmosphere was pretty mellow and fun. It was a crowd you could feel very comfortable being a part of.
Did I mention the view?
The Bad
Parking..ridiculous for the the size of crowd...there is NO adequate parking in the area...plan to park FAR away and walk a LONG way.
The Sound was so inadequate that I'd say about half the crowd couldn't hear the band. We set up near the back of the first section and couldn't even tell when the band started.
Not enough bathrooms meant ridiculously long lines...this is not a concert for anyone with a weak bladder.
The Recommendation
If you want to spend the entire day at the beach and show up in the morning to claim a decent spot, you'll enjoy the next of these concerts..which will be in August. If you don't show up by about 8 in the morning, you'll be stuck with a spot so far away you won't see or hear anything, so in that case I would NOT recommend it.
It's an ambitious idea, but the organizers do not serve the attendees well with their completely inadequate sound system.
