Concert Review: Howard Jones & Men Without Hats

Last Friday night after a day of sailing, I stayed with my friends in the marina adjacent to Humphreys on Shelter Island down in San Diego to watch the concert from the docks.

It was a nice night... warm and clear.

Men Without Hats

I was not a huge fan of this ban back in the 80's, but I must admit, they did bring a fresh energy to their set that made the music nostalgic but also fun. Most people forgot everything other than "Safety Dance", but those who attended were reminded that Men Without Hats had some other good minor hit songs as well.

Howard Jones

I was a huge fan of Howard Jones back in the 80's, having interviewed him a couple of times. A very nice bloke and an excellent song writer. So it was surprising that his half of the show was pretty disappointing. While Men Without Hats sounded fresh and fun, HoJo sound totally dated..even his new songs. The sound itself was the most disappointing part. It was MUCH reduced in level from the opener and the performance listless. Good songs...lousy delivery...no VOLUME.

The are other 80's band packages that I would recommend much more than this one...
