I recently went to see the new movie "Yesterday" now playing at the Reading Cinema in Murrieta.
This movie was made by the same folks who made Slumdog Millionaire- so the humor and the story arc are similar.
Without giving too much away here is the basic plat: due to an "event" (explained in the movie) everyone in the world no longer remembers the Beatles or their music. A struggling young artist who does remember uses their music as his own....
The Good:
The British style humor in the film is style I am a fan of, so if you enjoyed Slumdog, you'll find the laughs in this movie too. The use of the Beatles music is perfect and adds a great deal to the emotional depth of the film.
The Bad:
(Spoiler Alert): In the film The Beatles did actually exist, everyone just has their memories wiped of it, so the scene with a 78 year old John Lennon doesn't jive with the concept. The also spoiled a great chance to have Paul McCartney in that role as a cameo
The Recommendation:
Yes there are plot holes..and the story strays far off the music to a very predictable and a little sappy ending, but overall I would recommend ...YES...go see the movie. The idea is completely original and much of the story telling is quite heartfelt.
