Cherie Currie & Brie Darling Performance & Q & A Event Review

A couple of nights ago I had the pleasure of traveling to the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles for a special event.

It was the first time the band featuring Cherie Currie (most well known as the original singer of the Runaways) and Brie Darling (most well known as a member of the band Fanny) would perform in public as they we releasing their new CD called The Motivator.

I was very surprised and NOT surprised at the same time....

First what I was NOT surprised about: I've known of, and been a fan, of The Runaways for a very long time. I have interviewed Joan Jett, Lita Ford, and just recently Cherie Currie. I knew the history of the band and just how good Cherie was....

So I was not surprised to hear her onstage with a powerful voice, presence, and attitude that I always knew was there. Cherie has, in my opinion, gotten better through time. She not only has the natural talent to use that voice, but it seemed to me that she has total knowledge and confidence on just how to use her voice now. Whether it was to dominate with a lead vocal, or harmonize, or sing back up, Cherie seemed right on point during this too short 30 minute performance.

Now for how I was surprised...

As someone who has been around music a very long time, and who feels he has a pretty decent grip on music history, I did not know much about Brie Darling...much to my personal shame. Her band Fanny preceded the Runaways as the first all-girl band signed to a major label, and my knowledge of that, and of Brie, was pretty minimal.

What I was more than surprised about..was just how GREAT she is onstage. She sings like every single word matters. Power when needed, gentle when necessary....and hearing her live with Cherie, it was easily understandable why these to icons would make a record together....and if that wasn't enough, Brie can beat those drums like they owe her money!

After the brief set there was a nice Q & A with a host that may have wanted to guide the conversation a little too much, but both Cherie and Brie were gracious and really tried to answer all the questions.

Cherie & Brie right now plan on taking their show on the road and hopefully will have some So Cal dates in November.

Below are some pics from the event and the title track video- the Marc Bolan penned "The Motivator"- this version should be all over the radio....but if you don't here it elsewhere..you will hear it on Radio 94/5.
