Here's another message from the City of Temecula:
Beginning in 2012, the City of Temecula has proudly proclaimed “Pechanga Pu’éska Mountain Day” as a local holiday each year on November 15. The annual holiday is an opportunity to reflect on the profound ways in which the Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians, Temecula’s first citizens, shaped our community’s character and heritage.
Join us at the steps of City Hall on November 15, 2021 at sunset for a short but meaningful ceremony that will recite the annual holiday proclamation. The proclamation, originally drafted in 2012 by the City and Tribal Councils, reaffirms Pechanga Pu’éska Mountain Day as a City holiday and formally shares the Pu’éska Mountain story that bonded our community.
The impetus for Pechanga Pu’éska Mountain Day was also created into a documentary film by Brad Munoa, a member of the Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians and a writer, director, producer for the Pechanga Creative Studios. The monumental people’s movement and the momentous ending that protected Pu’éska Mountain and the Temecula Valley is now a powerful award-winning documentary entitled “The Mountain That Weeps.” Temecula residents and businesses are urged to watch “The Mountain That Weeps” at www.mountainthatweeps.com.
