The Viper Room is a small but legendary fixture on the L.A. music scene. So many great rock and roll stories of famous artists showing up to play this intimate room.
Now the word is out that this venue may close due to redevelopment.... so tragic!
I remember planning to go to a Viper Room show about 15 years ago with an unsigned band I was friends with. It was their big chance to showcase in front of a bunch of music industry VIPs and they were excited.
Then their manager Laura got a call from the venue. "We have to move your set back for an hour". For a second, Laura was devastated. But when the venue rep followed with, "Slash from Guns and Roses wants that slot, so you'll play after he does"- suddenly bad news turned into the best ever news!
Word got out Slash was performing that night and the Viper Room was packed for my friend's band. What a rock and roll BONUS.
If the Viper Room closes, L.A. loses an important music landmark... I doubt it...but I hope the rumors are wrong..
