Dwight's Daily Dose of New Music: Band Described As "Baroque Western Goth"

Today's artist is Murder By Death and the song featured is "Everything Must Rest"

Here's the info from Ravel Rouser:

Some bands build catalogs over the years. Murder by Death has built a universe. Over more than two decades together, they have released eight deeply immersive albums, each one subtly broadening their sonic and thematic limits, and exploring what the band is truly capable of. On their ninth album, Spell/Bound, the band has taken their largest leap forward into lavish, spaced-out territory only hinted at on previous records. “For this album we leaned hard into some less obvious influences that have inspired Murder by Death over the years, like Massive Attack and Portishead, emphasizing a sound that is both chill and dark. We wanted it to be a record that was lush but not necessarily a wall of sound,” says frontman Adam Turla. Their lead radio single, “Everything Must Rest," is a straightforward pop jam laced with an 80s Cure guitar lick over a simple, catchy hook. In other words "Everything Must Rest" is just your average baroque-western-goth-new wave-indie-pop summer jam about death. Lyrically Turla sings “Wrap me up in roots on a summer day - kick off your boots come out and play - come outside into the daylight - traipse across the yard throw stones at my window in the dead of night - when the dust settles - when the kettle's dry - I realize you have always been the favorite in my eyes - I loved you best - still - everything must rest."
