On this day, many Monday's ago, I sat down for the second time to have a conversation with Stuart Goddard- aka Adam Ant.
The two interviews were in great contrast. The first time was not a very pleasant experience. Adam seemed quite bothered by the fact that he had to sit down and do an interview backstage at one of his concerts. he was also not pleased when I brought up Malcolm McLaren and the roll Malcolm played in developing the Adam Ant "pirate image". If you want to know the whole story, ask me sometime when you run into me at one of the Temecula Valley Music venues, or on one of the local pickleball courts...
The second interview was a complete change. It was done in the studio and not at a concert. Adam was in a good mood, very helpful and answered all my questions thoughtfully and completely. I really enjoyed the second interview and it was a great experience to meet the real person.
If you approach an artist at a concert, usually their mind is on the show- the performance, the technical issues and more. it may be hard to get to know who they really are. Meet them off the road and your experience will almost certainly be better. Mine was.
