Cabo 2023 Part 2: The Food

In Part 2 of my blog series on visiting Cabo, I'm focusing on the food!

I love Mexican food and although you can get many other types of food in Cabo (some great Italian restaurants), for this I'm focusing on Mexican food in Cabo.

The resort I stayed at did not have good food other than the "pool food" so I won't focus on resort restaurants, although many of the fine dining restaurants are connected to hotels.

My best traditional Mexican fare was at a restaurant recommend by a couple of locals who live in Cabo half the year. Pancho's is in town and not very fancy, but they serve great food. Even the salads are good. The "Mole' sauce we ordered was amazing and the Queso fuTres Sirndido con chorizo was to die for! This place was also the most affordable of all the restaurants we went to.

My single favorite dish was the octopus at Sur (right next to the Sand Bar where we got our massages during our stay), It was cooked to perfection and the side dish of sweet potatoes with pesto and grated parmesan was easily the best overall meal I had. This place is a bit spendy (over $100 for dinner for two), but in this case totally worth it!

We also ate at a place that is a bit of a tradition in Cabo: The Office on the beach is regular stop people have been going to for decades. It used to be the only cool restaurant right on the main beach in Cabo. But in recent years it has gone from a cool little beach to dine right on the sand at to a HUGE area that in its growth has lost it's charm. The bacon wrapped shrimp was our best dish eaten, but where The Office used to be a good deal, dinner for two here will also set you back over $100. If you've never gone...go once...but it just doesn't compete with places more fun (like Mango deck right next door) and the other places to eat right on the beach now.. and their are many.

We had one meal in one of the marina restaurants, but if you are a serious foody, the marina restaurants are not your best option. Small portions, marginal quality, and high prices dictate that the extra walk or cab ride is worth it for far better dining experiences.

Our final dinner was at Tres Sirenas (3 Mermaids). The service was the best by far and the food was top quality. The caeser salad was made at the table and the best salad we had during our trip. The coconut shrimp were huge and the best I've ever had, the rest of the meal was good, but not great. The enchilada dish we ordered lacked pizzazz but was tasty nonetheless. This place was the most expensive with dinner- withOUT drinks well over $100.

Thank you Liz, for being my food co-conspriator and finding most of these places!
