The nominees for the 2023 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have been announced.
Here's what i think of each one:
- Kate Bush (long overdue- Stranger Things probably helped, but she deserved this long before the TV reminded us of her brilliance)
- Sheryl Crow (might be a tad early, but I'd still be ok with it)
- Missy Elliott (rock & roll?)
- Iron Maiden ( I was never a fan, but I am aware that they are important enough to the metal scene to be in)
- Joy Division/New Order (As an Alt fan I say of course- combining the 2 makes it a no brainer)
- Cyndi Lauper (a few hits in the 80's..not so sure about this one)
- George Michael (I agree- huge impact on music)
- Willie Nelson (If Dolly went in last year, Willie should go in this year)
- Rage Against the Machine (absolutely!)
- Soundgarden (Yes, I wish this would have happened when Chris Cornell was still alive)
- The Spinners (Yes..and overdue at this point)
- A Tribe Called Quest (all nominees can't get in, so if I have to eliminate at least one, this would be it)
- The White Stripes (might be too soon)
- Warren Zevon (yes- this should have happened before he passed)
To be eligible for nomination, an individual artist or band must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination. Eight out of 14 of the Nominees are on the ballot for the first time, including Sheryl Crow, Missy Elliott, Joy Division/New Order, Cyndi Lauper, George Michael, Willie Nelson, The White Stripes, and Warren Zevon. This is the first year of eligibility for Missy Elliott and The White Stripes.
