"More Music in the Morning" Listener Alison Loves Animals- And Her Job!

Whenever I make friends with a listener, I always like to ask them for fun stories that I think might be fun to share with you all.

My radio friend Alison (who listens using the iHeardtradio app and online at radio945fm.com) has what I think is a great career- She took her love for animals...and created a fun and satisfying job using that love for animals.

Here's is her story:

Hi! My name is Alison Huntley and I’m a professional Pet Photographer based in the Mission Hills neighborhood of San Diego. I have a beautiful home studio where I create custom sets to capture the personalities of people’s beloved pets. While a large majority of my clients are dogs and cats, I’ve shot everything in between from boa constrictors and geckos to tortoises and horses. If you’re thinking this sounds like the best job ever, it most definitely is!

Before focusing on the furry companions that we share our lives with, I worked alongside horses as an EAGALA (Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association) Certified Therapist. The beauty and vulnerability of these amazing animals inspired me to pick up a camera and capture their emotions through visual storytelling. I loved this creative outlet so much that I eventually transitioned away from the mental health field and into a full-time career as a fine art photographer. After years of working with models, make-up artists and set designers, I decided it was time to pursue my true passion for animals and hone in on the niche of pet photography.

So what does a pet photographer do? I offer a handful of photo sessions ranging from artsy headshots to full-on birthday “pawty” sessions where we smash into cakes and celebrate with confetti! I am ultimately known for my stylized pet portraits so you can expect to see a wide variety of decorative backdrops, props and fun accessories like pearl necklaces and bowties in my portfolio. My portraits are creative, quirky, and unique, but most all, they tell a pet’s life story. My goal is to help pet owners preserve the present, for the future, and keep the love that they feel for their companion alive forever through the art of photography.
