This one really hurts....The passing last weekend of David Johansen hit me personally. David was my very first artist interview ever. It was after the first run of the NY Dolls and before Buster Poindexter when he was performing as a solo artist and opened for Pat Benatar. He was so gracious and kind to me that he may have been the person who gave me the confidence to go forward and conduct over 3,000 interviews throughout my career. I was blessed to be able to see him again during his Buster Poindexter era and thank him for getting me started telling him at that time I was approaching 1,000 artist interviews. I am so grateful for his kindness and generosity. He is a legend who so many of us will miss for the rest of our lives...
He will live on through his movie rolls (The Ghost of Christmas Past in "Scrooged" with Bill Murray), and his fun and sassy Buster Poindexter music, and as the legendary front man of the band that was "punk" before the term "punk" was even used. Below are some samples of this great American icon..he will be missed.
That's me , getting to thank David for being my first artist interview ever a few years later during his first Buster Poindexter Tour
