Travelers trying to go through airport security for domestic flights without a REAL ID or passport could be charged an 18-dollar fee. The money would go towards the costs of an alternative identity verification program that uses biometric data to verify identity. A public notice about the proposal was published Thursday by the TSA, but no start date has been given. REAL ID was made into law back in 2005 but only became required this year.
Note: A passport is still acceptable for travel, so if you don't have Real ID, you'll need to take your passport, if you have one, for domestic as well as international flights.
