German scientists ran a test to find out the best way to stop air flowing from a cough. They used a method that allowed them to actually see air dispersed from a man's mouth. They had him breathe normally at first. Then had him cough into open air, into his hand, into his sleeve, into a dust mask, and finally cough into a surgical mask. None of these methods completely stopped the air flow, but the one that showed the most containment was when he coughed into his sleeve using his elbow. Take notes and use best practices people.
